The History of International Business College

1898

International Business College began conducting business education classes in the Coles Building, Downtown, El Paso. The prosperity of the school allows founder J.P. Mullin, to make several moves to larger facilities.

1922

IBC is purchased by J.E. Gilkey and moved to the Raynolds Building.

1924

IBC is first Accredited by the National Association of Commercial Schools.

1966

Mr. E. L. Schnadig, Jr. purchased the school and moved it to the Mills Building.

1970

LTV Educational System, a Dallas, Texas Corporation, purchased the college.

1972

BC is moved to the Central Campus location on Montana Avenue.

1973

International Business College, Inc., assumed ownership and management of International Business College, an El Paso, Texas corporation owned by Donald and Janyce Beardsworth.

1980s

International Business College expanded greatly, opening branches in Las Cruces, Alamogordo, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Lubbock, Texas.

1982

The Bond Auxiliary Campus is relocated to the El Paso Lower Valley.

1985

The auxiliary campus in Northeast El Paso opened.

With approval of the Computer Accounting and Computer Secretary programs by the Texas Education Agency, IBC moves further into the high technology area of education.

1987

Branch campuses are designated as “free standing” campuses.

1989

The Board of Directors of International Business College elected to concentrate on its schools in El Paso, Texas, and to divest its holdings in other locations.

1996

Jerry D. Foster purchased the stock of the corporation, ensuring continued local ownership of the school. Mr. Foster became the President and Chairman of the Board.

1999

The Zaragoza Campus is moved to a new facility at 1155 N. Zaragoza

2003

The Montana Campus is moved to 5700 Cromo Drive, on El Paso’s west side.

The Medical Assistant program was approved and was offered at the East Campus in September of that year. It was offered at the West campus one term later.

In December, the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools approved International Business College’s first Associate of Applied Science degree program, Business Administration

Associate of Applied Science degree program, Business Management is offered to our students at our Eastside campus.

The West campus was approved to hold the Business Management Program.
